Dumped Milk

Last week I witnessed 110 gallons of raw milk being dumped out on a friends farm. It was a very emotionally charged gathering but in a different way such a beautiful thing to have witnessed. Like minded folks joining together in hopes to bring about change.

A Halloween Post....finally

A few months ago when I asked Oscar what he wanted to be for Halloween he says, a ghost cowboy. Ok. We went out and searched for the appropriate attire; cowboy boots, hat, shirt, pants, bandana and ghost paint? I knew that that would never fly with him, but I kept silent. (he's not the one to wear things on his face, masks, paint anything).

So, fast forward to Halloween night, he does not want to get dressed up. He says he wants to go as himself.

He sits and waits in the car until we finally meet him there, with Sally, of course.
(man, this kid is hard headed!)

before going out

We arrive at our destination unclothed. He comes around with seeing all the other kids dressed up. And was a very happy boy, collecting candy for the Halloween Fairie!

We ran into our friend, Major Bedhead!

And I did manage to get one photo of the visiting ghost cowboy. Spooky.

And the Halloween Fairie did come that night and left a beautiful handmade broom for Oscar to find the following morning.

And, it was a hit!

A Little Sauerkraut

We were gifted a lovely big cabbage from a dear friend. And as do most my veggies, it sat on the counter for a week before I unwrapped the bag to find the cabbage inside. It was still just as fresh as when I had received it. I thought about making some cabbage soup, never tried it or made it. But I settled for some sauerkraut. It was a hit with Oscar, he helped shred it, pound it, taste it and jar it.
I loved being able to connect with him on this level of making food. It is now and has been so important to me for Oscar to know where food comes from and the process it goes through so that we are able to eat or drink it.

I love that he loves sauerkraut!

Have a lovely hump day!

Been Caught Casting

Do you ever wake up to singing a song in your head?
I do, just about every morning.
Like a dream it only sticks around for a short amount of time.
This morning it was Been Caught Stealing...you know by Jane's Addiction
Although I'm not stealing, just on a knitting binge and maybe a little Jane's binge.

Anyway, I love this Ears of Grain pattern. The yarn I picked up a while ago without a project in mind, just found the color irresistible. I'm glad I found a project that was fit for it!
It does have a ton of steps, but it's so beautiful, especially with some Debbie Bliss.

This fabulous book, which I lovelovelove. I hear there is One MORE Skein out which I can't wait to dive into. Besides all the pretty pictures in One Skein, there are quick, simple projects or more challenged and longer ones for you to cast your needles onto.
I love this simple little "candy wrapper" sachet. I filled mine with a little lavender in a muslin bag and tied up the ends with some left over yarn. loveit.

a new shawl and it's adventures in red clay

I had just finished knitting up my Noro mini shawl. It seemed be taking me forEVER to finish it.
As soon as I finished weaving in all the ends I wasted no time blocking it.
I stuck it in a fresh bowl of water and soap and headed outside to play.

I came back in after about 15 minutes, poured the water out, refilled with fresh water and headed back outside.
Oscar was playing in the dirt and I was digging in the garden. He told me after a bit he was going inside to wash his hands.

No prob, I said.

After a while, I headed inside to start drying my newly knitted shawl outside.
I walk in the bathroom to my surprise and find GEORGIA RED CLAY all in my fresh water bowl with my shawl!

After a few big words, I managed to rinse the water and wash out most of the red clay. You gotta love that variegated yarn and I guess that georgia clay also!

Note to myself: do not leave yarn out where small people or pets can reach!

Happy day to you and you and you!

Being Green

DSC_6784

This little frame has been hanging around (or not) for quite some time.
It has waited patiently for just the right project to come along.
And so it did. The perfect project.
With our green paint in hand (literally) we painted and pressed.
And were left with a beautiful piece of art.

until next time...
hope you are happy and green!

A Day of Sweetness

Autumn has arrived and I am loving it.

Spending the whole day like any other in the company of my little O.
We took a walk with our shadows ~ we danced, ran and flew like a bird in the morning sun along their sides.
We worked together helping a friend prepare for her birth.
We gathered fallen sticks to build love bird nests.
We ate together, snacked and drank tea together.
We ran in the park together, collecting leaves, seeds, stars and love.

He shook tree limbs testing his strength
He researched the squirrels, their homes, the trees.
He wrote words of Love.
Oh yes, my favorite time of year is here and it is alive inside.

Now that's sweetness!

Weekend Festivities

Life seems to fly by around this time of the year. With all the festivals and holiday markets, I'm either going to with my family or participating in, it's quite busier but in the best of ways.

This weekend was the Field of Greens where there was some good music from King Richard's Sunday Best
some local chefs cooking up some yummy treats, (balsamic vinegar pickled eggs), interesting and fun vendors, face painting, porter beer made with rainwater, goat milking and much more.

Hope you had a happy weekend.
Stay tuned this week, I'll be accepting an award from Leigh!
